First day on the job5/5/2023 ![]() ![]() Have you thought about what you’ll say if your new colleagues ask you about yourself?.Have you looked up the latest reviews for the product, service or initiative that you’ll be working on?.Have you read the latest news online covering your new employer?.Do you know what your new colleagues normally do for lunch?.If you were promised a new starter pack but haven’t received it, have you asked your new manager or HR contact?.Have you recently read your new starter pack, if you were sent one?.Does your document folder fit comfortably inside?.Do you have a bag you can take documents and other items in?.Have you got a document folder which you can keep your documents safe when taking them to your first day of work?.Do you have your notepad and pen to take notes on?.Bank statement (original or print out certified by a bank branch).Have you got one or more documents showing proof of address?.If you’re not a UK citizen, do you have your original documents that prove your right to work in the UK?.Do you have your P45 from your previous employer (if applicable)?.Do you have your national insurance number written down on your phone, if you haven’t already given it to the employer.Have you asked your manager what you’ll be doing on your first day?.Have you asked your manager if there’s anything in addition to official documents that you need to bring with you?.Has your new manager or your HR contact told you which documents you need to bring with you?.Have you memorised the names of colleagues who you’ve already been told about (especially your manager’s name)?.If you’re working remotely on a work laptop, do you have the contact details for your new employer’s IT team (IT Service Desk) so you can get help if you run into teething problems (these are common)?.If your employer has sent you a work laptop, have you turned it on, signed in and opened the programmes you’re likely to use?.If you’re working remotely, has your employer sent you the equipment they promised?.Do you know who you have to report to at the workplace, and how to enter the workplace?.Do you know what time you start work on your first day (it’s not always the normal work hours)?.Is your work outfit clean and ready to wear?.If not, have you tried the route during a morning rush hour?.Do you know exactly how long the route to work will take?.If you’re travelling by public transport, have you planned how you’ll pay for it?.If not, have you asked your new manager or HR contact?.If you’re travelling by car, have you planned where to park?.Have you planned your route to work (car or public transport)?.Your passport or a utility bill like gas or electricity.What to bring on your first day of work?.Would you mind telling me what it’s like working with ?.What are you working on right now – can I help?.Questions to ask when meeting new colleagues.How often should I update you on my work?.Do you have any goals for me or the team this month?.What’s the best way to communicate with you?.Is there anything I can do to support you today?. ![]()
